The Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) invites applications for a three-year, full-time research position as a Doctoral Researcher. The position provides the opportunity to work in a leading international research institution with high academic standards and a cross-disciplinary environment.
This Doctoral Researcher is financed as a part of a grant from the Research Council of Norway to PRIO for a project on “e-Topia: China India and Biometric Borders” led by PRIO Research Professor Åshild Kolås.
The e-Topia project studies Indian and Chinese approaches to the digitalization of governance and society, the everyday impact of e-governance and Internet of Things application in India and China, and how related societal change in the two countries affects the relations between them, and global dynamics.
The Doctoral Researcher who will be employed in this project is hereby invited to develop a subproject on Digitalization, e-governance and the Internet of Things in India. The research methods and theoretical approach must be formulated by the Doctoral Researcher her/himself, but the doctoral work must include fieldwork in the Indian ICT capital of Bangalore, studying the development of digital systems and applications by government agencies and the corporate sector, and diverse stakeholder perspectives. The overarching goal is to shed light on the interaction between e-governance and business, and the way public and private sector stakeholders perceive the benefits, risks and challenges of digitalization in India.
The starting date for the position is 1 September 2020 or as early as possible thereafter.
